Is US solar success better for China than it is for the US?

Saving America with Chinese solar power?

Solyndra bankruptcy hits hard.

CNBC is reporting that Silicon Valley is losing more green jobs than it is creating based on a Brookings Institute study. Much of the decline might be attributed to the recent Solyndra bankruptcy, which didn’t just cost tax payers 1/2 a billion, but it cost Silicon Valley more than 1,000 jobs.

Yet, some solar companies are thriving in California — using Chinese-made solar panels.

According to CNBC one of the hottest solar-powered job creators in California is solar leasing, led by companies like Echofirst in Southern California. Unfortunately, Echofirst uses Chinese-made solar panels.

Well, at least those Chinese solar panels are creating good green jobs, right?

Maybe. Without considerable state and federal tax incentives, Echofirst could not exist according to CNBC’s interview with company executives. Consequently, US tax payers are subsidizing the Chinese solar industry, as US solar companies like Solyndra are losing hundreds of millions of tax payer dollars.

Certainly, the green energy provided by Echofirst’s solar power leases are a good thing, but are they worth the cost?
